Time to get real: About my Health

I have chosen to do a health post this week to help everyone understand the importance of listening to your body and to give you all some insight into my journey.

About 3 and a half years ago I was diagnosed with lactose and severe fructose intolerance. Both are a type of sugar found in quite a lot of foods we eat everyday and we don't even realise.

After receiving this diagnosis a lot of my existing health issues finally made sense; my bloating, my weight loss struggles, being tired CONSTANTLY and body fat I could not budge. I began to cut out the obvious things I knew effected me.

Lactose was the easiest change, I now consume lactose free or low lactose dairy foods which are readily available at health food stores and supermarkets. Fructose, however; was a bit harder for me to figure out. I never really understood what foods contained the sugar, how they were effecting me long term and I honestly, at the time, didn't care enough to find out. I stopped eating foods I knew effected me, like cooked onion and tomato...I knew there were more.

Fast forward to 2017, my motivation to better my health kicked in. I have been meal prepping for months, going to the gym regularly, drinking more water and getting more sleep. Although I was doing all of the things I knew I should, I still have bulges that just won't go away. After speaking with a colleague she gave me the first book of the 'I Quit Sugar Program, with Sarah Wilson.' My mind was blown. I had no idea how much fructose was in almost everything!

The initial book is full of information, amazing facts about fructose and delicious recipes - which is the most exciting part. Eating healthy can be so boring when the food gets repetitive or time gets tight. Most of Sarah's recipes are designed to be made in bulk and frozen which is great when you're on the run!

I have only been on the program for a few days, and I can already feel changes. I haven't been bloating after I eat or feeling heavy and I have noticed I have more energy to wake up in the mornings. I know that the worst of the detox is yet to come and there will times where I want to lapse, but I am looking forward to the positive outcomes this journey will have on my body. Getting to a healthier weight, having a healthy gut, more energy and just feeling well overall.
