"When you are defining your own style, it's so important not to be nervous. Part of style is confidence - you need to own your sense of style and be relaxed ..." Kate Spade

When I talk about finding your uniform, I don't mean it literally, I'm not talking about a work uniform.

Your 'uniform' is that classic outfit that you put together everyday, it is one that represents your style. It is not always structured, there is no formula and it is not always the same.

Mine is simple and I fall back on it a lot. Jeans, a classic t-shirt, jacket that sits on the hip and sneakers. The look is simple and never fails me for day to day wear. I own several pairs of jeans, a million t-shirts and jackets to choose from and too many pairs of sneakers to even mention. This is my uniform.

I do change it depending on the occasion though, if I have a formal event or a family BBQ in the middle of summer, I wouldn't wear a pair of jeans. I adapt my 'uniform' to suit the occasion and adapt my style.

Finding your uniform can be achieved in a few simple steps:

1. Be mindful when you shop - don't buy items just because, make sure they reflect your attitude and true sense of self.

2. You don't have to follow trends - do you!!

3. Invest in multiples of items if you KNOW works - an example of this is great quality jeans. Get a few pairs in different colours.

5. Find a colour palette - this doesn't always apply to everyone, but it can certainly help in finding your uniform. I have found that I wear black monochrome looks quite a lot; however I have invested in amazing bold coloured items that I will get out when I'm headed somewhere special or feeling motivated.

Invest in quality basics, always be comfortable and be confident in your uniform; it is you!

The key components to your uniform are probably already in your wardrobe. When we are able to identify that we have a uniform, it can bring a sense of ease to dressing even on the toughest mornings. If you're ever in doubt your uniform is there and it will not fail you.
